摘要 <p>PURPOSE: A system for recognizing a distance to a forward vehicle by sensing a forward vehicle and a method for the same are provided to directly recognize a distance to a forward vehicle and to sense the forward vehicle with a camera integrated navigation device, thereby autonomously warning a vehicle collision to a driver without using a separate vehicle collision warning device. CONSTITUTION: A system for recognizing a distance to a forward vehicle comprises an image processing unit(120), an section setting unit(130), a vehicle sensing unit(140), and a distance determining unit(150). The image processing unit receives images photographed of the front side of a vehicle from a camera, thereby converting the images into grey images. The section setting unit sets a section of interest for sensing the forward vehicle in the grey images. The vehicle sensing unit senses the forward vehicle in the section of the interest by using learned data with respect to the vehicle. The distance determining unit determined a distance to the forward vehicle based on a setting value of the distance in the images.</p>
