<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate pattern data in consideration of the MTF characteristic of an image input apparatus, the pattern data being used to perform resolution conversion from a low resolution image by matching the pattern data from within a data base and replacing it. <P>SOLUTION: A high resolution image is acquired and downsampled 102 to generate a low resolution image. From the same coordinates of an inputted high resolution image 103 and a generated low resolution image 104, a signal value gradient pattern is acquired.
