NEW PHOTOSYNTHETIC BACTERIAL STRAIN WITH HIGH ABILITY TO DECOMPOSE GLYCEROL, AND METHOD FOR DECOMPOSING GLYCEROL USING THE BACTERIAL STRAIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing glycerol as a byproduct at low cost with no burden on the environment in a process of producing biodiesel oil.

SOLUTION: A bacterium of Rhodovulum sp. OKHT16 strain (FERM P-22127) having an ability to decompose glycerol is provided. The method for decomposing glycerol is also provided, including a step of culturing the bacteria in a glycerol-containing medium under aerobic dark conditions to proliferate the bacteria with glycerol as a bait for the bacteria.
