<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of being unable to perform switchover control in the event of a failure in a supervision and control unit which controls to switch over redundant transmission paths, and consuming a time to complete switchover control if a switchover control unit is simply configured with redundancy, which causes restriction in scalability. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission device includes: a plurality of interface units capable of accommodating communication channels; and a cross-connect unit for branching a user signal to transmit to each interface unit and for connecting a communication channel accommodated in each interface unit to a client device. The communication channels are configured with redundancy using two or more interface units.
