VIABLE PARTICLE COUNTER AND VIABLE PARTICLE COUNTING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of counting the number of viable particles by detecting the viable particles in a liquid regardless of the influence of Raman scattering light by water.

SOLUTION: A viable particle counter includes: light emission means for irradiating a liquid containing an object to be detected with light having a prescribed wavelength; self-fluorescence selection optical means for reducing Raman scattering light emitted from the liquid transmitting light emitted by interaction between the object or the liquid and the light emitted from the light emission means, and transmitting self-fluorescence emitted from the object; and viable particle determination means for determining whether the object contained in the liquid is a viable particle or not on the basis of light obtained after the self-fluorescence selection optical means reduces the Raman scattering light. The light emission means emits the light having the prescribed wavelength for making a peak wavelength of the self-fluorescence different form a peak wavelength of the Raman scattering light.
