A user interface system for controlling an electronic device (2) having a touch-screen (4) is disclosed. The system is configured to detect and identify a static touch on the touch-screen (4) at a fixed contact point; in response to detecting the static touch, to display a graphical object (10a) containing or surrounding the contact point; and to change a visual attribute of the displayed graphical object (10a) progressively over time while the static touch continues.
