[Also in Group VI] An elongated strip of fibrous material is corrugated longitudinally (Fig. 4) to form ridges with projecting fibres resulting largely from discontinuous tearing, the corrugating rollers being dimensioned not to produce sharp cuts, the ridges then being compressed so that the corrugations overlap (Fig. 5). The strip may then be formed into cigarette filters by gathering in a forming cone and encircling with wrapping paper the edges of which are joined by pasting. The filter rod so formed is cut into lengths. The paper used may contain a melamine-formaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde resin to increase its wet strength. Specification 795.534 is referred to. |
