The device has a rotary knob (31) intended to be rotatably moved relative to a housing (33), where the housing includes a scale (32) associated with rotational displacement of the rotary knob. The rotary knob and the housing present notches ready to cooperate in the event of rotation of the rotary knob relative to the case, where distance between notches corresponds to division of the scale. A force feedback device acting on the rotary knob provides force feedback proportional to the movement of the rotary knob. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a rating system for real-time rating of an auditory stimulus such as combustion noise, of a diesel engine of a motor vehicle (2) a rating method for real-time rating of an auditory stimulus such as combustion noise, of a diesel engine of a motor vehicle.
