<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner and a method of operating the air conditioner that can efficiently switch a heat pump to a refrigerant natural circulation cycle by estimating and detecting air conditioning load with high accuracy, to achieve energy saving of the air conditioner. <P>SOLUTION: In switching a vapor compression type heat pump to the refrigerant natural circulation type cycle, the air conditioning load which changes from hour to hour, is detected by identification of several times to grasp the present air conditioning load with high accuracy, and the refrigerant natural circulation cycle is applied when it is determined that the present air conditioning load can be covered by the refrigerant natural circulation type cycle relative to a capacity in the refrigerant natural circulation type cycle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
