<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood cell counting device and a blood cell counting method capable of smoothly removing the whole blood specimen stuck to the inside of a cap before sucking the whole blood specimen. <P>SOLUTION: The blood cell counting device includes a hand part for holding a specimen container T and agitating a specimen, a piercer pierced into a cap of the specimen container T and a barcode unit arranged in a conveyance path between the hand part and the piercer. A notch B21a recessed in a center direction is formed on a roller B21 of the barcode unit. A CPU, after reading out a barcode label stuck to the specimen container T, rotates the roller B21 of the barcode unit at a high speed. When the notch B21a arrives at the side face of the specimen container T, the specimen container T is quickly displaced to a direction of the notch B21a and force is applied to the specimen stuck to the inside of the cap.
