<p>PURPOSE: To distinctly discriminate a bar code on an object in the background having optical clutters by detecting the existence of a target locator group in response to a ratio of the width of a locator element and that of a space and reading a bar code data element adjacent to this group. CONSTITUTION: For the purpose of permitting or rejecting passage of an automobile at a check gate 16, a video scanner system is used together with a bar code card 12 supported on a front windshield S of the automobile 14. When the automobile 14 enters the scanning area of a camera 22, a photo cell 50 detects the automobile to generate a command signal 51, and a video interface/ digitizer 38 converts this video signal 20 to a digital signal to test whether a video locator group exists or not. A data processor 52 reads digitized driver discrimination data and vehicle discrimination data and searches a hard disk memory 36 to confirm whether driver authority display data of a specific combination matches the vehicle ID data or not.</p> |
