<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device configured to improve reliability of canceling power-saving mode, and a method and program for controlling the image forming device. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming device operates in normal mode or power-saving mode that consumes less power than the normal mode. The image forming device sets a detection range, on the basis of at least one of an angle of an operation panel, whether there is a sheet output to a paper discharge part, and whether an authentication device has been installed or not (S504). The image forming device causes, in the power-saving mode, a sensor to detect an approaching human body (S506).
