<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable writing utensil structured to prevent uncomfortable metal contacting sound from being made when operating the knock member comprising metal protruding from a metal circular ring provided on the rear part of the shaft tube. <P>SOLUTION: The retractable writing utensil 1 allows the writing body 4 or a writing lead to come out of the end of the shaft tube 2 of the writing body 4 by operating the knock body 6 of metal in a cylinder form that protrudes from the metal circular member 5 provided on the rear part of the shaft tube 2.
