The method involves amplifying a portion (s-start) of an input signal (s-in) from an input unit of a hearing device (10). An overlay signal (s-over) is formed as a function of the input signal. The overlay signal is superimposed on to the reinforcing portion of the input signal using an additive (38) to produce an output signal (s-out). The output signal is converted into a sound signal. An independent claim is included for a hearing device.
