The method involves providing a forming tool with a cavity (3) for forming a workpiece, and providing an embossing element on a surface of the forming tool, where the embossing element comprises a surface profile provided on the surface of the forming tool for producing an embossed surface structure. The surface profile of the embossing element is embossed onto a surface of the work piece during forming the workpiece. The surface profile is provided in an elastic foil-type plate form or a wire mesh form, and the embossing element is connected to the forming tool.
