911,570. Fused-electrolyte cells. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'lNDUSTRIA MINERARIA E CHIMICA. March 20, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 9706/59. Class 41. An electrolytic cell for producing aluminium and employing a Soderberg anode 3 in a casing 2 has a flexible member, e.g. a chain 8 or a set of pivoted levers, connected at one end at 7 to the casing 2 and at the other end to a fixed support for a movable beam 11 which carries the anode 3, the chain 8 being movably supported intermediate its length by the beam 11, e.g. passing about pulleys 9, 10, carried by the beam 11, the arrangement being such that on movement of the beam 11, and therefore of the anode 3, the end of the chain 8 secured to the casing 2 remains fixed relative to the other end, to hold the easing 2 stationary. Four embodiments are described in which the flexible member is a system of pivoted rods. In one embodiment, Fig. 3a, the casing 2 is carried by four rods 13 from the beam 11, the rods 13 being connected by triangular levers 14 which are pivotally connected at 15 to the beam 11 and which are joined by struts 16 to a fixed pivot point 17. |
