<p>#CMT# #/CMT# The apparatus (2) has a multi-stage gear transmission (10) located in a gear transmission housing (6) and comprising shift sprockets. A gear shifting device (12) has a gear shifting slide (14) displaceable between different gear shifting positions. Connection devices (32) connect the slide with respective sprockets, where the slide comprises a tracing profile (20) with control tracks (22, 24). Each connection device has tracing sections subjected, by the profile, to shifting force in staggered manner. The sections are arranged on both sides of a pivot axis (SA) of concerned connection device. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Electrical apparatus e.g. screw gun or drilling machine. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The arrangement of the tracing sections creates a rocker-like region on each connection device, thus permitting application of opposite torques to respective connection device so as to pass the tracing profile from one shifting position to another position despite of constraints, and hence obtaining compact slide without a control slot. The height encumbrance of the slide inside the transmission housing is therefore reduced.
