<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical communication method, capable of reducing an inter-core crosstalk, in the bidirectional optical communication method using a multi-core optical fiber as an optical transmission path. <P>SOLUTION: A multi-core optical fiber 10A includes four cores 11, 12 in a common clad 13. The two cores 11 respectively transmit signal light to one direction from an optical transceiver 21 to an optical transceiver 22. The two cores 12 respectively transmit signal light to one direction from the optical transceiver 22 to the optical transceiver 21.
