The present invention includes antimicrobial silver-containing compositions comprising high valency silver (e.g. Ag(II) and/or Ag(III)) that are effective in treating Erwinia species bacteria as well as methods of treating a plant susceptible to an Erwinia species infection by using the antimicrobial silver-containing compositions. The present invention also includes a method of treating a plant of the Rosaceae family by contacting the plant with the antimicrobial silver-containing compositions of the present invention which comprises high valency silver (e.g.Ag(II) and/or Ag(III).
