<p>A remote device 9 contains a memory 8 programmed with encoded intelligible language messages. Access to information on the device is automatically started on an electrical connection made through the mechanical connection of a telephone handset. DTMF tones from the handset are used to request data and are decoded by 3. The microcontroller 4 interprets the request and passes intelligible messages encoded in memory 8 to the audio interface 5 to generate an intelligible language message representing the information required over the handset.
