PURPOSE: A BTB static reactive power compensation apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to stabilize a system rapidly, by improving transient response performance of an active current and a reactive current of a rectifier unit, and an active current and a DC voltage of an inverter unit. CONSTITUTION: A command calculation part(203) calculates a command value of a control input and a command value for a state variable outputted from a BTB static reactive power compensation apparatus using more than one of a command value of an active current and a command value of a reactive current of a rectifier part, a command value of a reactive current of an inverter part and a command value of a DC voltage applied to the BTB static reactive power compensation apparatus. A feedback control signal generation part(205) generates a feedback control signal using error between the command value for the state variable and the state variable. A control signal input part(207) generates a control input using the command value for the state variable, the command value for the control input, the error and the feedback control signal.
