Speed - maintaining systems. - For maintaining constant but adjustable speed-ratios between motors driving units of a papermaking machine, each of the members 12, 13 has a differential regulator 17, 18 of the kind described in Specification 241,523. The regulators vary the field strength of generators 15, 16 connected to oppose the voltage of the supply conductors 14. A similar differential regulator 22 keeps a constant speed-ratio between a no-load motor 19 and a motor 20 driving an A.C. generator 21 which feeds synchronous motors 28, 36 serving as the standards for the respective regulators 17, 18. In a modification the generators 15, 16 assist the voltage of supply, the action of the regulators on the field-strength being the inverse of the first arrangement.</p> |
