Class 79(5) [Also ,in Group XXIV] In a rack and pinion steering mechanism, the rack 22 has a central longitudinal groove 140 in which a toothed nylon insert 142 is located and spring-pressed into engagement with the pinion. Pins 150, 152 secure the insert 142 in the groove 140 and a leaf spring 156 is positioned behind the insert. The mechanism may be combined with a planetary reduction gear train employing a nylon planetwheel as described in Specification 925,687. |
