PURPOSE: A method for enabling an environment operation system capable of free-boot execution with a switch in direct connection storage environment capable of scaling and a system thereof are provided to transmit operating system files to an LUN(Logical Unit Number) through an SAS(Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface) system by using a PXE(Preboot Executable) session, thereby installing an operating system in the LUN. CONSTITUTION: An SAS switch receives a command which installs an operating system in an LUN related to an SAS HBA(Host Bus Adapter) which is connected to the SAS switch(302). A PXE session between the SAS switch and a PXE server is established in response to the command(304). The operating system is installed in the LUN by transmitting operating system files to the LUN through the SAS switch(306). PXE packets are received from the PXE server.
