PURPOSE: A luminescent material is provided to have excellent color purity and temperature performance and to emit yellow light with wide half-band width of luminance spectrum, with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A yellow light emitting material has a composition which is represented by chemical formula 1: (Sr_(1-x)Eu_x)_aSi_bAlOc_N_d, and has a light emitting peak within a wavelength of 550-590 nm when excited by light with a luminance peak within 250-520nm. In chemical formula 1, 0＜x<=0.16, 0.50<=a<=0.70, 2.0<=b<=2.5, 0.45<=c<=1.2, 3.5<=d<=4.5, 3.6<=d/c<=8.0.
