<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus able to bi-directionally and easily match information relaying on various languages with an interchangeable lens device or external device according to a language set in the body of the imaging apparatus, and to provide an external instrument, imaging apparatus system, language setting method and program. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: the body part 2 that creates image data by imaging a predetermined visual field area and photo-electrically converting it. The body part 2 is freely attached to or detached from a lens device 3 recorded so as to corresponding to each of a plurality of languages. The body part 2 creates image data by imaging and photo-electrically converting the predetermined visual field area, and is able to bi-directionally communicate with the lens device 3.
