SURGICAL STAPLING APPARATUS WITH LOCKING Abstract The present disclosure provides for a surgical stapling apparatus (10) and/or a 5 loading unit (16) for use with and/or supportable on a distal end of a surgical stapling apparatus (10). The loading unit (16) includes a housing portion (200) including a distal end and a proximal end, a drive assembly (212) slidably supported within the housing portion (200) of the loading unit (16), and a locking mechanism (288) supported on the housing portion (200) of the loading unit (16). The locking mechanism (288) has a first to position wherein the locking mechanism (288) engages the drive assembly (212) and maintains the position of the drive assembly (212) in a ready-to-load position relative to the housing portion (200) of the loading unit (16). The locking mechanism (288) is pivotable to a second position wherein the locking mechanism (288) disengages the drive assembly (212) and enables the drive assembly (212) to move relative to the housing 15 portion (200).
