<p>A method of encapsulating tiled timed media data in a server and providing a timed media data bit-stream from encapsulated tiled timed media in a client device. Partitioned tiled timed media (e.g. video) data comprises timed samples (e.g. images), each comprising a plurality of (e.g. spatial) subsamples, e.g. using network abstraction layer (NAL) units. After having selected at least one spatial subsample (e.g. tile) from amongst the plurality of spatial subsamples of one of the timed samples, one partition (tile) track is created comprising the selected spatial subsample and one corresponding spatial subsample of each of the other timed samples. One reference track, comprising at least one extractor (reference object) identifying at least one of the created tile tracks, is also created. Each created track is independently encapsulated in at least one media segment file. The reference track may also comprise initialization data. The method is compatible with HTTP streaming, and applicable to scalable video coding (SVC).</p> |
