<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seismograph capable of measuring and recording a fine displacement quantity accompanying an earthquake with a simple constitution without requiring a complicated operation and settings. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a seismograph which is installed at a joint part where deformation of a wooden building can be easily measured, and measures and records deformation due to lateral shakes of the wooden building. The seismograph includes a gauge head 40 which is installed in contact with a column at a joint part that deforms owing to a lateral shake, and moves as the column deforms; an arm 20 which is coupled to the gauge head and rotates as the gauge head moves; recording means 24 which is provided to the arm, and records the rotational quantity of the arm; and a base 10 which holds the gauge head movably, pivotally supports the arm in a rotatable manner, and has a recording area for the recording means.
