AUTOMATED DUAL COOKING SURFACE GRILL AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual-sided cooking device that determines whether the upper cooking platen and a lower cooking platen are substantially parallel to each other when in a cooking position.

SOLUTION: The lower cooking platen 14 is mounted to a support structure and the upper cooking platen 22 is mounted to the support structure so as to move between a cooking orientation position and a non-cooking position. A dual-sided grill device includes units 48 and 48 for sensing a distance between both platens, and a unit for automatically determining whether the upper cooking platen and the lower cooking platen are relatively parallel to each other when both platens are in the cooking orientation position.
