<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device configured to prevent the temperature from being excessively increased in a non-paper-passing region at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device for thermally fusing an unfixed image by a heating member includes: a suppressing device that starts when the temperature of a non-paper-passing region of the heating member reaches a predetermined temperature higher than a fixing temperature to suppress excessive temperature increase of the region; a non-contact type temperature sensor which is arranged in a position facing close to a part of a region laterally inside the maximum paper-passing width in the heating member, to detect atmospheric temperature of the non-paper-passing region of the heating member; and control means that determines, when the position of the sensor faces the paper-passing region of the heating member, whether the temperature of the non-paper-passing region has exceeded the predetermined temperature, according to the detected temperature (S1205), and starts the suppressing device if the temperature has exceeded the predetermined temperature (S1206). The temperature sensor is arranged in a position where the detected temperature and the temperature of the non-paper-passing region have a positive correlation in the case that the temperature of the non-paper-passing region falls within the range from the fixing temperature to the predetermined temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
