SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element 13; a mode switching section 102 for switching an eight pixel addition mode for adding a plurality of same color pixel signals and reading an image signal from the imaging element 13 and a four pixel addition mode for adding the plurality of same color pixel signals at an addition number smaller than the same color pixel signals at the eight pixel addition mode and reading the image signal from the imaging element 13 in accordance with a processing content performed in the imaging apparatus; and a reading section 103 for reading the image signal from the imaging element 13 in accordance with the eight pixel addition mode or the four pixel addition mode.
