In a step for producing a composite webbing (137), which is a continuous body of the water-absorbent article having a first section where highly water-absorbent polymer particles (4) are interposed between two overlapped sheet pieces, and a second section that surrounds the first section, the angle between a first guide roll (161) that is located on the upstream side in a machine direction (MD) from among guide rolls for allowing the composite webbing (137) to travel in the machine direction (MD) and a second guide roll (162) that is adjacent to the first guide roll (161) on the downstream side in the machine direction (MD) is varied within a range of 30-180° with respect to the orientation of the travel direction of the composite webbing (137), the orientation of the travel direction of the composite webbing (137) being directed toward the first guide roll (161).
