摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide having excellent solubility in an organic solvent and capable of imparting a pretilt angle of liquid crystals as a liquid crystal alignment agent, an acid dianhydride compound which is a monomer of the polyimide, and a method for producing the acid dianhydride compound. <P>SOLUTION: The acid dianhydride compound is represented by formula [1], wherein R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>each independently represent H or 1-20C alkyl; and R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">7</SP>each independently represent H, 1-20C alkyl or 1-20C haloalkyl, provided that R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>or R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">7</SP>may bond together to form an alkylene chain.
