The method involves receiving one of the input parameters, such as rolling speed (v) of a towed vehicle (2), the distance (s) of the towed vehicle covered from a starting time point and the distance (d) of the towed vehicle from a traction vehicle (1) attached to the towed vehicle, and evaluating the received input parameter in an electronic controller. The braking force of the brake of the towed vehicle controlled by the electronic controller is automatically increased on determining that one of the input parameters reaches or exceeds a predetermined threshold.
