PURPOSE:To omit an acid washing process and to subject a steel plate of hot rolling with scales attached to it to cold rolling directly, by coating previously the steel plate with a composition consisting essentially of a specific water-soluble resin compound followed by adding water, etc. and subjecting the steel plate to cold rolling. CONSTITUTION:Before cold rolling, a steel plate of hot rolling is coated with a composition consisting of a water-soluble resin having a carboxyl group as a base oil blended with a dispersing lubricant, and the coated steel plate is subjected to cold rolling while one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of water, emulsion rolling oil, water-soluble or water-dispersing lubricant being fed to the steel plate. Acrylic acid (acrylate) and/or methacrylic acid (methacrylate) having an acid value not less than 50 is used as the water-soluble resin, and fats and oils, fatty acid, higher alcohol, etc. are used as the lubricant. An amount of the lubricant is preferably 1-100pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. water-soluble resin. EFFECT:Prevention of the release of scales, reduction in the load of rolling, and the lowering of abrasion wear can be achieved. |
