The method involves driving the first cylinder bank (51) for increasing the drive torque of crankshaft (3) in accordance with a predetermined portion of time course. A second cylinder bank (52) is driven for decreasing the driving torque according to predetermined time characteristic. The driving of the second cylinder bank is performed by gradually disabling the cylinders (2) of the second cylinder bank.
