<p>An item of footwear 10, such as a boot or wellington, with an expandable entry and exit system, comprises a shell 14 which supports the foot in use and a shaft 12 connected to the shell 14. An expandable portion 36 extends across a portion of the Achilles region of the boot and includes a stretchable material 38 which may be of elastic, nylon or resilient leather. The expandable portion 36 extends on at least one vertical lane (39A, 39B, figure 2) and at least one horizontal lane (40, figure 2), and is surrounded by the shaft material. A reduced friction inner lining material may be sewn along the interior shaft region to promote easy entry of the foot.</p> |
