METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INTRA PREDICTION

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for intra prediction are provided to calculate the differential of neighboring pixel values of a current block and select candidate modes of the current block, thereby increasing video compression ratio of a video. CONSTITUTION: A collector unit(101) collects information about the intra prediction modes of reference blocks which have been encoded. A differential calculation unit(102) calculates the differential of neighboring pixel values of a current block when the intra prediction modes of the reference blocks are identically a planar intra prediction mode. An candidate intra prediction modes selection unit(103) selects a candidate intra prediction mode of the current block based on the differential. An intra prediction mode determination unit(104) determines a intra prediction mode of the current block. An encoder unit(105) encodes the intra prediction mode of the current block using the candidate intra prediction mode.
