<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for promptly and surely detecting a caulking defect on a stage where caulking/mounting is completed, regarding a mouthpiece which is caulked/mounted to a top plate member of a metal can as a spout. <P>SOLUTION: An overall mounting portion of a mouthpiece 2 of a top plate member 11 is irradiated with shadowless light and imaged, such that luminances of ridge lines and valleys are distributed concentrically. Ridge lines R1, R2 of an annular caulking part 3 are segmented from a captured image by an image processing apparatus 4. Approximate perfect circles C1, C2 corresponding to the ridge lines R1, R2 are arithmetically operated and defined. Areas of regions Z1, Z2 enclosed with the approximate perfect circles C1, C2 and the segmented ridge lines R1, R2 are calculated. The calculated areas are compared with a preset determination reference area.
