Methods and systems for making competitive sales or incentive offers from merchants through a service provider to a user while protecting user privacy enable merchants to make offers that are based on a user shopping wish list - which may be either transient (having a pre-set expiration time) or non-transient - in which the wish lists are provided from users through the service provider to merchants in a secure and private manner. A computer-implemented method includes: sending, to a merchant device of a merchant, wish list data about a wish list item for a user, the wish list data containing no specifically identifying information about the user; receiving, by a service provider device of a service provider, an offer about the wish list item from the merchant based on the wish list data; and providing, to a user device for the user, the offer about the wish list item.
