The method involves registering a signature for each document, and transmitting a command (CMDi) to a reader (50). An operation of electronic signature of the document is performed in response to an enable signal by cooperation of the reader and a smartcard. An authentication code is verified by the reader, and the authentication code is stored (51) in a memory in case of positive verification. The stored code is verified (52) in cooperation with the smartcard in response to a subsequent command, and an authorization signal is sent to a computer in case of positive verification. An independent claim is also included for a system for electronic signature of a set of documents.
