PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a Selaginella tamariscina Spring extract or a fraction thereof is provided to prevent or treat asthma. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating asthma contains a Selaginella tamariscina Spring extract or a fraction thereof; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The extract is prepared using water, C1-C4 alcohol, or a mixture thereof. The C1-C4 alcohol is methanol or ethanol. The fraction is prepared form the extract using non-polar or polar organic solvent.
