<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal which inhibits a third person from using the portable terminal without authorization, by accepting a remote operation by a function control mail from a terminal having a specific phone number, or the like, by using SMS (Short Message Service) in which a message can be transmitted/received by setting a telephone number as an address, without using encryption data. <P>SOLUTION: When a portable terminal receives an SMS mail, the portable terminal determines whether the SMS mail is a function control mail for a remote operation (step S2), and if it is the function control mail, determines whether a transmission source of the mail is a pre-registered telephone number (step S3).
