<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector in which the occurrence of flicker is suppressed and luminance responsiveness is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 500 switching a first image and a second image, to alternately output the first image and the second image at a given switching timing includes a discharge lamp 90, a discharge lamp drive unit 230 supplying power for driving the discharge lamp 90 to the discharge lamp 90, and a control unit 40 controlling the discharge lamp drive unit 230. A period between the switching timings temporally adjacent to each other starts with a first period and ends with a second period, and the control unit 40 controls the discharge lamp drive unit 230, so as to supply first power W1 to the discharge lamp 90 in the first period and so as to supply second power W2 to the discharge lamp 90 in the second period, on the basis of a correlation pattern being a pattern indicating a correlation between the first power W1 and the second power W2.
