<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device capable of executing intermittent travel with good energy efficiency as compared with conventional ones and achieving low fuel cost operation in accordance with travel environments and travel conditions. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle control device is used in a hybrid vehicle capable of performing intermittent travel with repeated acceleration travel and inertia travel in a vehicle speed range R, and includes an HVECU setting an upper limit vehicle speed VH and a lower limit vehicle speed VL, making transition to the inertia travel when a vehicle speed V is raised to the upper limit vehicle speed VH, and making transition to the acceleration travel when the vehicle speed V is lowered to the lower limit vehicle speed VL. The vehicle control device includes a motor MG2 as a drive source during the acceleration travel and an inter-vehicle distance sensor detecting an approaching vehicle. When a forward approaching vehicle is detected during the intermittent travel, the HVECU changes the vehicle speed range R to a vehicle speed range R<SB POS="POST">L</SB>so that the vehicle speed V during the acceleration travel may not exceed a control vehicle speed VS. When a rearward approaching vehicle is detected during the intermittent travel, the HVECU changes the vehicle speed range R to a vehicle speed range R<SB POS="POST">H</SB>so that the vehicle speed V during the inertia travel may not be lower than the control vehicle speed VS. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
