The method involves providing a restoring force on valve unit (10) by actuator (6) that is moved in a valve housing (18). The electrical energy is supplied to actuator by control unit (3). The valve unit is moved within a switching cycle, to reach an open position or a closed position of control valve (2). The amount of electrical energy supplied to valve seat (20) is dimensioned such that a mechanical contact is spaced apart from valve seat through spaced stop (22) in open position and mechanical contact is contacted with valve seat in closed position.
