PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating and amplifying a wideband signal by controlling the power source of a power amplifier with a short pulse is provided to simplify and miniaturize a circuit when designing a high or ultrahigh frequency circuit. CONSTITUTION: A high frequency generator(210) continuously inputs a high frequency. A high voltage pulse former(230) inputs a pulse-modulated high voltage signal. A progressive wave tube amplifier(220) continuously receives a high frequency from the high frequency generator, modulates the high frequency into a pulse in the high voltage pulse former, and receives the pulse-modulated high voltage pulse signal becoming a broadband by modulating the high frequency into a pulse from the high voltage pulse former. The progressive wave tube amplifier outputs the high voltage pulse signal formed by the high voltage pulse former into the electronic beam of a regular pulse width gap.
