PURPOSE: A device for having a client participate in data storage in a distributed file system and a method thereof are provided to supply a local disk access effect to the distributed file system of the client by having the client participate as a storage role. CONSTITUTION: A storage determining unit(910) determines first metadata information including a global generation number of a chunk corresponding to a file to be read. When the first metadata information is stored, a file read unit(920) reads the file by using local data corresponding to the first metadata information. A metadata receiving unit(930) receives second metadata information including the global generation number of the chunk and stores the second metadata information. The file read unit receives chunk data from a data server corresponding to the second metadata information and reads the file by using the chunk data.
