PURPOSE: A display device, contents receiving method, and a contents providing method are provided to receive contents from not only a server but also from other display devices, thereby providing contents for the display device while maintaining a load of the server constantly. CONSTITUTION: If a first response signal includes an address list, a network interface unit transmits a second request signal to a display device having an address included in the address list(S110,S120). If the network interface unit is able to transmit the contents according to the information included in a received second response signal, a control unit receives the contents from a display device which transmits the second response signal(S130,S140). If the network interface unit is able to transmit the contents according to the first response signal, the control unit receives the contents from a contents providing server(S150).
